Hospital Introduction
Hangzhou Third People's Hospital was founded in 1950. Its predecessor, a healthcare center directly under Zhejiang Provincial Health Department was formed by the merger of a PLA recuperation center, Zhejiang Government Health Office and Zhejiang Government Office Clinic. In 1995, following the new idea of “building a specialized comprehensive hospital with dermatology as the preponderant discipline”, it restructured its medical resources, enhanced the special characteristics of dermatology, proctology, ophthalmology and other departments, and consolidated the hospital infrastructure and facilities, thus putting the development fof the hospital into a fast lane.
The hospital is located in the eastern part of Hangzhou City. It is a municipal Grade A hospital with specialty characteristics. The hospital undertakes the training of graduate students from Zhejiang Chinese Medicine University and Anhui Medical University, as well as the clinical internship and teaching work from Zhejiang Chinese Medicine University, Hangzhou Medical College, Hangzhou Normal University and other colleges and universities, with a number of national, provincial and municipal honors, such as the model hospital, the trustworthy hospital, the model for cultural and ethical progress, the health promotion hospital, the green hospital, and the first elected "My Best Hospital in Hangzhou". In September 2003, through public bidding, Hangzhou Huimin Hospital, the first charity hospital in the city, was established here.
In recent years, the hospital has adhered to the purpose of "implementing China's public health policy of the new era, centering on people's health, saving lives and helping the sick, preventing and treating diseases, improving people's wellness and promoting the development of medical undertakings.” It has made continuous efforts in improving medical quality, innovating health services, advocating humanistic care, and striving to provide patients with full-process and all-round quality services. At present, the hospital boasts more than 1,500 employees and 800 open beds, and serves as Zhejiang Dermatosis Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Technology Guidance Center, Zhejiang Dermatology Research Center of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Hangzhou Institute of Dermatology, Hangzhou Fracture Healing Stimulant Institute, Hangzhou Skin Laser Treatment Center, Hangzhou Proctology Diagnosis and Treatment Center, Hangzhou Vascular Surgery Center, Hangzhou Urology Minimally Invasive Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and a postgraduate training base of Anhui Medical University and Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2017, it was rated as a national standardized residents training base. It has built nine professional bases in dermatology, general medicine, internal medicine, surgery, neurology, emergency department, anesthesiology, ultrasound and radiology. With a sound teaching system and rich training resources, it has provided training for a total of 147 resident doctors. Its dermatology department is a national key clinical specialty and a provincial key discipline, and its special vitiligo treatment sector is a key specialty disease center of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Proctology is a key specialty of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the 12th Five-Year Plan, a key (supporting) discipline at provincial level, a key specialty of Zhejiang Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.The department of pain is a provincial key clinical specialty construction project in 2023 in Zhejiang Province.Its Departments of Neurology, Oncology, Urology, Pharmacy and Geriatrics are rated key disciplines of Hangzhou city level. In the new round of medical key discipline evaluation (2020-2024) in Hangzhou, the hospital’s dermatology and venereology have become the peak disciplines. The hosptial’s proctological surgery and brain science have become key disciplines of medicine in Hangzhou, and pharmacy a key cultivation discipline of medicine in the city, too. In 2022, ten centers of peak dermatological disciplines, including Vitiligo Medical Research Center, Hair Medical Research Center, Infectious Skin Disease Research Center, Dermatology Drug Research and Development Center, Skin Laser Beauty Center, Skin Surgery (Plastic Surgery) Center, Dermatology Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Critical Skin Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, Children's Skin Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and Obstetrics and Gynecology Skin Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, were established.
The number of outpatients in the dermatology department of the hospital has ranked third in the country for more than 10 consecutive years, reaching 1.50 million in 2022. At present, the department has five wards, with 177 beds and 244 medical staff, including 21 MDs and 102 MMs. At present, the department features vitiligo, venereal diseases, cosmetic laser, psoriasis, onychomycosis, skin plastic surgery, trichonosis, melasma and other special outpatient clinics. It also provides skin CT, dermoscopy, Wood lamp and other examinations. There are six laboratories for cell culture, immunology, molecular biology, dermatopathology, fungi and venereal diseases. In 2017, the hospital led 21 medical units in the province to take the lead in establishing the provincial specialty alliance - Zhejiang Dermatology Specialty Alliance in Hangzhou municipal hospitals, and expanded the alliance units to 40 in 2023, sinking and sharing the technical resources of the dermatology discipline of Hangzhou Third Hospital to 10 cities in Zhejiang Province.
